BOTH City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and Iloilo Governor Niel D. Tupas will play hosts to the national launching of a nationwide caravan of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) slated on August 14, 2009.
This was announced recently by Ricardo de Vera, chairman emeritus of the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) and convenor of the project designed to give attention and focus on small business enterprises in the countryside.
De Vera acknowledged that Iloilo has a strong SME base that helps prop the local economy amid the global economic crisis.
Speaking at the SME Otop Fair last July 13, 2009, de Vera also witnessed the launching of Iloilo Brand that depicts the Arroyo Fountain fronting the provincial Capitol here with words “Iloilo’s Finest” to be incorporated in packaging of local products and stickers showing the best of Iloilo products and services.
The branding was conceptualized by college students from the West Visayas College of Science and Technology, University of the Philippines, University of San Agustin, and Central Philippine University with a student from CPU bagging the grand prize of P6,000.
De Vera said a small and medium entrepreneur must take into consideration five things of business. These include, for entrepreneurs, to always revisit the purpose of his undertaking, knowing the customers, building up communication level, purpose, and goal of the business, and branding of the entrepreneur in the forefront of the business.
The PMA head said his organization, which was founded in 1954, has a continuing endeavor to help small businesses come to the forefront through business promotion.
